Recredentialing is a payer- and state-mandated process that you must pass in order to stay credentialed with payers, and continue billing on Headway.
Recredentialing timelines
Frequency of recredentialing | Time allotted to complete the recredentialing from | |
All states (except Illinois + Massachusetts) |
Every 3 years from your initial credentialing date | 5 months from initial notification |
Illinois | Every 3 years, based on the last digit of your SSN * | 2 months from initial notification |
Massachusetts | Every 2 years, based on your birthday month and year * | 2 months from initial notification |
* Because these cycles are based on unique elements, your recredentialing may be due soon after your initial credentialing date to “set” the cycle.
How recredentialing works on Headway
Recredentialing will be completed via the intake form in the provider portal. We'll carry over all relevant information from your initial intake form to your recredentialing form, to ensure that the process is as low effort and painless as possible.
During recredentialing, we’ll ask you to confirm the details you previously provided, and update anything that may have changed since last completed. It will take around 20-30 minutes to complete.
Key reminders and deadlines
- Re-attestation: Please keep in mind that re-attesting your CAQH account does not mean you have submitted Headway’s recredentialing intake. Please ensure that you complete each step of the recredentialing intake form within the provider portal to secure your active status on Headway.
- Deadlines and exceptions: Because Headway is held to payer- and state-specific compliance regulations, we're not able to grant any exceptions for recredentialing forms that are not submitted by the deadline indicated via email. We make every effort to send more frequent email reminders as you approach your recredentialing deadline, and ask that you reach out to our team if any issues or concerns come up. If completed in a timely manner, the recredentialing process will not interrupt your ability to provide care to the patients you are already seeing on Headway.
