From Google Calendar
If you keep clients on your calendar that are not Headway clients, these may show when calendars are imported.
Suggested route: OAuth two-way sync
-
In Sigmund (your provider Headway account), click on Settings in the left menu bar and open the Calendar tab there.
-
Click the Connect Google Calendar button next to Google Calendar Sync then click the Continue to Google button in the pop-up.
-
Sign in with your Google account and approve access on the Google consent screen and click Select all under "See what Headway can access," and click Continue.
- Navigate back to the Calendar tab in Sigmund (accessed via Settings in the left menu bar), refresh the page, click on the Gmail account you've just added, and click the Update button.
- In the Sync settings pop-up, toggle on Import into Headway and check the box next to your Gmail address (which should say "Primary" on the right).
- In that same pop-up box, scroll down and toggle on Export to Google and then choose your Headway calendar from the drop down options under Export Calendar. Click Save changes.
-
Click on the three vertical dots next to your main calendar, and select “Settings and sharing”
-
Within your Settings scroll all the way down on the page until you see “Integrate calendar".
-
Copy “Secret address in iCal format” using the copy to clipboard
icon to copy the full URL (as a note, a security message will pop up — you will have to approve it in order to copy the URL)
- Once you've copied your secret link, log into Sigmund and navigate to Settings > Calendar
- Click “Import Calendar"
- Paste the “Secret address in iCal format” you copied into the URL field
-
Click "Add"
-
Click the “Settings” wheel
-
Click “View all Outlook settings”
-
Select “Shared calendars”
- Scroll down to the “Publish a calendar” section
- Click on the drop down menu and select the calendar that you'd like to import to Headway
- Select "Can view when I'm busy"
-
Click “Publish"
-
Copy the ICS link
- Once you've copied your secret link, log into Sigmund and navigate to Settings > Calendar
- Click “Import Calendar"
- Paste the “Secret address in iCal format” you copied into the URL field
-
Click "Add"
- Navigate to Settings, then Scheduling and inquiries
- Click Calendar
-
To sync with Google Calendar, click Connect in the
Google Calendar box
- Sign in with Google and follow the prompts
- Follow the steps to import your Google Calendar into Headway
-
The most common issue with importing arises when providers use a
public link rather than a private link
- Hint: If you paste a private link into your browser it will try to download a file, whereas a public link will take you to a website
- See above for steps on downloading the private link
- If you're trying to import a calendar from another third-party website or application and you're running into further issues, we suggest trying to import the third-party calendar into an Outlook or Google calendar, and then exporting that calendar link to Headway as a workaround

If you keep clients on your calendar that are not Headway clients, these may show when calendars are imported. For SimplePractice, you'll need to connect it with your Google Calendar first, then sync with Headway.

Troubleshooting for calendar importing
Please note that we are only able support the following external calendar types at this time: Google Calendar, Outlook, or SimplePractice. You can follow the steps above to sync these calendars with your Headway calendar.
While external calendars are always outside of Headway’s hands, we want to make sure that we can help where possible. If you run into further issues, contact us.
Syncing
Every external calendar service syncs at different rates. The service you're using requests data from the server that you've imported and, because of this, we have no control over how frequently your external calendar requests Headway’s calendar data.
For example, Google Calendar imports from external calendars only a few times per day which can result in scheduling conflicts at times. Other paid calendar options sync more frequently and should reduce conflicts.
FAQ
There is a technical bug preventing some providers from successfully syncing their external calendars. If you're getting this error message, it's likely that the bug has impacted your account. Our engineering team is aware of this issue and is actively working on fix, however, we do not yet have a timeline for when this will be resolved.
In the meantime, you can add an Unavailability block to close off any time this is already booked externally. We hope have this feature restored soon.
